Picture Story – Juvenile Detention

Boys ranch residents style each others hair during an afternoon break in the daily schedule.© Greg StidhamThis series of photographs offers a glimpse inside two of the juvenile detention and rehabilitation facilities in California’s Contra Costa County – the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility in Byron, also known as the Byron Boys’ Ranch, and the Juvenile Hall facility in Martinez.

This work was completed in 1995 while I held a staff photographer position with Contra Costa Newspapers.
